What is the difference between a normal and an optimal result?
Normal is avery widerange.
A normal range is a population statistic: it describes where most people fall, and it is set wide so that falling outside it is meaningful. An optimal range describes where people tend to feel and perform well. A result can sit comfortably inside the first and nowhere near the second.
How a reference range gets built
Reference ranges come from measuring a lot of people and describing the spread. They are descriptive, not aspirational. They tell you what is common in a population, and common is not the same as good.
That matters more than it sounds, because the population being described is not a population of people thriving.
Why “in range” is a low bar
A standard panel is built to catch disease, and it is good at that. It was never designed to tell you whether you are performing at your best, which is why so many people are told they are fine while feeling nothing like it.
Being told you are fine is genuinely good news about disease. It is not an answer to the question most people actually came in with.
The honest caveat
Optimal is not one number that applies to everyone. Your own ranges depend on your panel, your history, your goals and where you are starting from. Anyone selling you a single target for every marker is selling you a population statistic with a different label on it.
This is why a result gets read by a person alongside your history and your symptoms, rather than scored against a chart.
